There is no denying the fact that 2020 has been an interesting year for all of us. As we learn to navigate the many changes and cancellations, you may find yourself longing for a taste of ‘normal life’. These 5 must-try Essex restaurants have everything you need to treat yourself to that perfect meal!
With restrictions in place in the province of Ontario, restaurant owners across the area have been forced to close their dining rooms and delay opening their patios.
While you may not be able to sit in and enjoy your favourite meal, many local businesses have taken the steps necessary to continue offering delicious meals while prioritizing the safety of both their staff and customers.
If you’re looking to #SupportLocal but don’t know where to start, this is for you!

I’m sad to report that Beach Volleyball at Billys has been cancelled until such time that they are permitted to open once again. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still indulge in their delicious food!
Billys Taphouse has released a special ‘Pandemic Edition’ Menu during this time including a selection of their most popular dishes as well as some great daily specials. In addition to their food, you can add a bottle of your favourite local wine for $20!
In addition to curbside pickup, Billys Taphouse is offering delivery to Maidstone, Pleasant Park, Woodslee, Cottam, North Ridge, Gesto, Edgars and all areas in between for only $4 or $2 within the town of Essex Centre. Delivery is available Wednesday through Sunday, 4 PM to 8 PM and is subject to a $30 minimum order.
Brenko’s House of Pizza
If there is one thing that Essex is known for, it’s pizza. So, I couldn’t share a list of must-try Essex restaurants without including a pizza place! Right?
Located in the heart of Essex Centre, Brenko’s House of Pizza offers a wide assortment of incredible pizzas including unique combinations like Pulled Pork Pizza, Sun Dried Tomato Florentine and Nacho Average Taco. In addition to their speciality pizzas, their menu includes calzones, salads, wings, and a selection of delicious starters.
True pizza lovers need to follow their social media accounts where they announce the ‘pizza of the week’ along with some great deals!
During this time, Brenko’s is offering both takeout and delivery (in Essex, Cottam and Maidstone). Credit card payments can be processed over the phone in order to provide for no contact service.
Olde School Deli & Café
If you’re looking for your caffeine fix, don’t worry! Olde School Deli & Café has you covered! After all, no one should be expected to make it through a time like this without an adequate coffee supply.
With both a breakfast and lunch menu available, there are plenty of delicious options to accompany that cup of coffee. Omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, and homemade breakfast combos are available to start your morning off right. If it’s a little later in the day, check out their wide variety of soups and sandwiches. You can even add a bottle of wine or can of beer to your order.
Olde School Deli & Café is offering both delivery and curbside pickup; however, they do require orders to be called in prior to pickup. Delivery is free in Essex Centre and $5 for surrounding areas, with a minimum order of $10.
In addition to sharing incredible deals each day on their social media accounts, the café has been running a ‘Suggest a Senior’ program. Anyone wishing to nominate a senior citizen can add their name to the comments and the winner will receive a hot bowl of soup and a hot drink (open only to senior citizens in Essex Centre and close surrounding areas).
